We are a Catholic community called by God
to share in the mission of Jesus.
Prayer Network:
Prayer intentions may be called to Nancy Kirmer at 620-653-2466.
Pastoral Council:
The Pastoral Council is the main governing body of the parish. The goal is to assist the pastor, to provide spiritual support, leadership, and direction to the parish community as it strives to carry out the work of Christ. They help maintain and support a continued process of communication throughout the parish community through contact with each of the committees and commissions. The Pastoral Council meets quarterly.
For additional information, please contact the parish office at 620-653-2963.
St. John’s Altar Society:
Ladies, the Good News is that if you are a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, over the age of 18, you are automatically an Altar Society member! Also, non-Catholic wives of registered parishioners may be included as associate members. The Altar Society is made up of committees whose purpose is to serve the parish by extending hospitality, providing social and recreational activities, and building up the Christian fellowship of its members. So ladies come and find your spot in the Altar Society. Be encouraged to serve others as you serve the Lord! For questions or additional information contact Sharla Schremmer at 620-653-7572.
Religious Education / Youth Council Committees:
Our parish offers a variety of opportunities for parishioners to deepen their spiritual knowledge and help others learn more about the Christian way of life. From sacramental preparation of baptism, reconciliation, Eucharist, and confirmation to faith formation through RCIA, grade school, middle school, and high school formation, these commissions promote and cultivate the Christian and Catholic formation of adults, adolescents, and children. The committees meet twice a year, late summer and during Christmas break, in two groups. The Religious Ed Committee works with the grade school age activities and the Youth Council Committee is designated for high school youth. These committees plan and implement lesson ideas, activities, catechists, and support for our parish faith formation. For questions or additional information contact the parish Director of Religious Education Rose Debes at 620-653-2963 or email [email protected].
Finance Council:
Outreach Committee:
The Outreach Committee has as its mission to reach out to those in need in our parish, community, and beyond. The projects include parish nurses, bereavement support, community food bank, annual memorial service in November, Christmas food baskets, Memorial Day Mass at the cemetery, Respect Life Rosaries, Blessings for Babies, 4th of July Patriotic Rosary, and visits to shut in's. Many parishioners volunteer to help make these various projects successful. The committee meets 4 or 5 times per year. All are welcome to join our committee or attend a meeting. For questions or additional information contact Jan Morgenstern at 620-653-4422 or email [email protected]
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults:
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process for anyone 18 years or older who wish to become Catholic. It warmly welcomes new members and provides an appropriate spiritual formation for each inquirer. One may never have been baptized, baptized into a different faith, or baptized Catholic, but never received Eucharist or Confirmation. The length of time it takes depends on the individual situation. For questions or additional information, contact the parish office at 620-653-2963.
Social Committee:
The Social Committee focuses on the celebration of parish occasions, primarily the parish picnic. The picnic is held the last Saturday in September each year. The committee plans food, refreshments, and entertainment for parishioners of all ages to enjoy. New members are always encouraged and welcome to join. For questions or additional information, contact Annie or Mike Riese at 620-786-1810.
Grounds Committee:
Volunteers for the Grounds Committee work to beautify the parish outdoor environment by planting, watering, weeding, and trimming, as needed, around the church and parish center. Also, volunteers remove snow from the parish sidewalks and parking areas when necessary for the safety of those attending Mass and parish functions. For questions or additional information, contact Duane or Patty Polzin at 620-653-7797 or email at [email protected]
Cemetery Committee:
The Cemetery Committee oversees the operation, maintenance, and improvement projects of the parish cemetery. The parish office sells the cemetery lots. Committee members mark the grave site for burials, back fill graves as needed, and supervise mowing. A recent improvement project was upgrading the fence around the cemetery. Future project plans include a cemetery directory. The cemetery is supported financially solely from the sale of burial lots and memorial donations, which are greatly appreciated. Committee members are Mike Aylward, Richard Lacey, Jerry Stoss, and Wayne Kaiser. For questions or additional information, contact Wayne Kaiser at 620-653-4588, after 6 pm.
Liturgy Committee:
The revised General Instruction of the Roman Missal (G.I.R.M.) notes the importance of directions about the preparation of people’s hearts and minds, and of the places, rites, and texts for the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist (No. 1). It clearly acknowledges that since liturgy is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian Spirit...the entire celebration is planned in such a way that it leads to a conscious, active and full participation of the faithful both in body and mind (No. 17). This committee is composed of the priest, servers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, hospitality ministers (Ushers), Music director and cantors. The committee exists to enhance the worship experience of the parish community. For more information on how you can get involved with the liturgy committee, call the parish office - 620-653-2963.
Liturgical Environment Committee:
This committee is responsible for Church decoration and ensuring that appropriate banners, according to the liturgical season, are displayed in the Church. Members of this committee include Donna Bates, Faye Doonan, Loretta Finger, and Hope Ney. They work with other volunteers in the community to decorate the Church, especially for Christmas and Easter. Check the bulletin for “help wanted” to assist with holiday decorating.
